"We made the decision in 2022 to build at the coast in order to fulfill our dream of living there full-time.  Our first step was to select a house plan followed by searching for a lot near Emerald Isle. During this time, we sought out recommendations from realtors, contractors and locals as to the best builders in the area.  We repeatedly received positive feedback about Ty Gay Builders.  As a result, we contacted their office to set up a meeting with Ty to discuss our house plan.  In the interim, we had made an offer on a lot in Swansboro and asked if Ty could meet us there to give us his thoughts.  He graciously agreed to meet me at the lot and walk it.  I immediately liked his down-to-earth approach and knowledge of the building process.  He suggested a Land Clearing and Septic Installation contractor who proved to be an excellent choice.  We subsequently met with Ty at his office in Kinston to go over our house plan.  He gave us expert input on practical improvements to the plan that would save money.  Ty knows the coastal environment and what needs to go into a house built in this location.  For instance, he goes with 2’ X 6’ framing as standard vs 2’ X 4’ to improve the overall strength of the house.  Over the years, Ty and his son, Blake, have assembled a top-notch team of contractors for every phase of the build - framing, siding, roofing, trim carpentry, painting, tile, cabinets, plumbing, etc.  We interacted with many of his contractors over the course of the build and were thoroughly impressed. In our opinion, Ty and Blake have house building down to a science.  At the beginning of the project, they provided a clear project check list that detailed the building steps and what we as the client needed to do and when.  They encouraged us to ask questions along the way and provided frequent updates on the building progress.  In addition to providing updates, Blake and Ty helped steer us through many construction decisions which were critical at times. Their team (including office staff!!) responded quickly to phone calls, texts, e-mails, etc.  Frankly, this was our fourth house build and they are by far the most professional builders we have had the privilege of working with.  Our house was finished in approx. 10 months according to schedule.  We could not be happier with the quality of construction and our experience along the way.   We interacted almost exclusively with Ty’s son, Blake, during the build, and he was tremendous to work with from start to finish.  We highly recommend Ty Gay Builders!"
